Difference between compatible and original ink cartridges

February 3rd, 2012

I am often asked by people about the difference between compatible ink-jet cartridges and original ink cartridges. I hope the following will explain it in detail.

Choosing between OEM and compatible ink cartridges can be a confusing process, as manufacturers and other consumers often give conflicting advice about which is the best choice. Manufacturers claim that using non-OEM cartridges could result in reduced print quality, but what is there really a difference? Let us look at some of the major factors involved.

For the majority of buyers, the reason they consider compatible ink cartridges instead of OEM is to save money. In almost every case, buying compatible cartridges will save a significant amount over OEM prices, sometimes up to 75% savings. This gives compatible cartridges a big advantage for buyers who are looking to reduce costs.

OEM manufacturers often claim that their products will provide sharper quality and better color output than compatible cartridges. In most cases, compatible ink gives the same quality output for a lower price. The cartridges are designed to meet or exceed the specifications of the originals, so there is no reason they should not. However, it is important to buy compatible cartridges from a seller with a reputation for quality. Many good sellers offer a satisfaction guarantee so that the product can be returned if it does not meet your expectations.

Lastly, many users tend to perpetuate a myth that using compatible cartridges will void the warranty on their printer. This is not true. In fact, there are many laws against manufacturers who do not honor a warranty for this reason.

While there are no significant differences between OEM and compatible ink cartridges, many buyers only buy OEM cartridges, despite the potential cost savings. Often this is based on poor experiences with low-quality compatible cartridges that led buyers to believe that all compatible products are made this way. If you decide to go with compatible ink cartridges, it is important to find a reputable seller who stands behind their products with a satisfaction guarantee. Here at printer planet we stand by all our inkjet and laser toners cartridges as they are tried and tested for quality printing. All our cartridges state the ink level and this is very important as some online sellers have no ink levels stated, as they can not match our high capacity ink cartridges.

Clean The Rollers On Your Printer To Improve Print Quality

January 25th, 2012

When printing, either at home or in the office, occasionally you may notice a few dark or faded spots on the printed pages.  If this happens, there is no need to call the expensive technician- at least not before you try cleaning the rollers.  This is a common issue with printers that are used frequently, as normal wear and tear will eventually affect quality.  The problem is easily fixable by the average Joe, especially with an Internet full of helpful tips, like this one.

Cleaning the rollers in the paper path:

Pull out the paper tray until it will not go any further, then lift it gently and remove it.  The rollers sit back behind the trays, so you will need to reach in the empty tray slot and grab the rollers.  Of course each is attached by a prong of sorts and will need to be taken off of it in the same fashion you would remove an empty toilet paper roll.

Make sure the cloth you use is clean and cotton, and dampen it with isopropyl alcohol.  Thoroughly and carefully wipe down each roller, removing dust and ink or toner particles that may have gathered.  Do not put the rollers back in until they are dry.  It is recommended to let them sit and dry out for a few hours, if not overnight.  Reattach each one to its prong, and make sure you here it snap into place.

Cleaning the feed rollers:

Be sure to unplug the printer for this one, as you will need to open the case of the machine, which can differ from model to model, so you may want to consult the manual.  Instead of removing the rollers, reach inside with the cloth doused in isopropyl alcohol and manually turn the rollers as you wipe the junk off them.  Let them dry for a while.

Once all of the rollers are dried and back in place, print a test page to make sure quality has been restored.

If you follow the above instructions, you should notice a vast improvement on you print quality. If anyone out there wants to comment    or have a question they want to ask, feel free to comment on this blog or any blog posted in the past.

Samsung error codes

January 17th, 2012

Below are just some of the most common error codes with the samsung printers.

Sometimes printers spit error codes at users with no explanation, leaving their owners scratching their heads and searching frantically for their old user’s manual.  However, even though we should, let’s face it, most of us don’t hold on to our user’s manuals like we should.  And when you’re using Samsung ML-2010D3 toner to print your 15 page assignment for your English class and only have 10 minutes to get there, the Internet seems like the easiest way to find what you’re looking for.  Though making a comprehensive list would be nearly impossible, below is a list of the most common Samsung error codes and how to fix them.

Missing Print- You have the incorrect paper size configuration. Check the settings on your printer and set them to the correct paper. You should be able to print then.

Scanning Error- Try replacing your USB cable first, but usually this is a hardware issue meaning something internally might need to be checked out and replaced.

Paper Jam- Paper is stuck inside your printer. Check the sensor, rollers  and Samsung CLP-K300A toner cartridges to make sure they are in the right position. Take out any paper that may be stuck inside the machine.

Square Prints- If your printer is printing squares instead of text, reinstall your printer drivers.

Media Tray Empty- Even if your paper is loaded into the tray, you may get an error message telling you that there is no paper. The best idea is to update the drivers. These can be found on the Samsung website and should fix your problem.

Error 24-This code means that the print job is overloaded.  Try reducing the amount of prints, and press print again.  This should work.  Also make sure you have plenty of Samsung CLT-K409S toner.

Error 50- There is a fuser malfunction. Usually the fuser isn’t heating up. The best thing to do is to is to switch your printer off and turn it back on. If it doesn’t work, your fuser or  may need replaced.

I hope the above will help you find the solution if you have a printing problem with your samsung printer.

This is why we have the ink ml clearly stated beside all our cartridges. Always remember not to be fooled by the online smokescreen.

Samsung Firmware Warning.

December 16th, 2011
Owners of Samsung ML-1640, ML-2240, ML-1915, SCXx4600, SCX-4623, SCX-4826/4828 series  laser printers should NOT upgrade their printer firmware nor should you  allow it to be upgraded in any way. Samsung has pulled a fast one and uploaded a new firmware update to their site for these printers. What this upgrade does is change your printer to refuse any cartridge other than their own cartridges.

DO NOT UPDATE YOUR PRINTER FIRMWARE!! Otherwise you will be stuck paying Samsung’s prices for cartridges instead of enjoying our quality cartridges at great prices.

IMHO, this is a malicious attack by Samsung on our printers. We bought them and brought them home, thus what we do with them is our problem, not Samsung’s problem. Samsung pulling this stunt is no different than a hacker accessing your computer and altering it to suit their own purpose, which is to prevent YOU, the owner, from using anyone else’s cartridges. This firmware update is done without the printer owner’s INFORMED consent!

If you do not own the above printers, but do own a Samsung.. Under no circumstances should you download any new firmware Samsung uploads, especially if your printer works fine in the first place. Make sure you turn off any automatic firmware updates for your printer via the Samsung printer settings. Also, do not use the dr. printer software provided by Samsung with your printer. It will download the hidden update and install it.

Shame on Samsung for stooping to a hacker’s level!

I would also say that if you receive any supposed free updates for your printer, do not take them as they may well cost you money going forward. Always remember if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.

Difference between pigment ink and dye-based ink

December 8th, 2011

When consumers are looking for replacement ink for their ink-jet printers, they will often come across two separate options: pigment based ink and dye-based- ink.  This can be confusing to those who don’t  know the difference, which is most like the majority of people.  The only thing that will be obvious to everyone is the fact that pigment-based ink is more expensive than dye-based ink.  This is a list of reasons these inks are different, and which the right choice is for you.

  • Dye-based ink spreads out more thinly on the paper, thus is more subject to light and will fade.
  • Pigment-based ink spreads in large drops, so it will not fade as easily and will last longer.
  • Dye dissolves in water, similar to sugar, so if a piece of paper gets wet once it has been printed on, the dye-based ink will smear.
  • Pigment-based dye does not dissolve and can withstand light water and will not smear because it is embedded into the fibers of the paper.
  • Pigment-based black ink is considerably lighter than dye-based black ink
  •  Dye-based black ink is usually found in monochrome printers
  • Pigment-based is usually found in color-capable printers even though the dye-based ink can produce more vivid colors.  The reason is because the pigment-based color inks will not run together
  • In some printers, an addition dye-based ink will be available for photo printing because the color spectrum is wider and this kind of ink runs less on glossy or photo paper.
  • Pigment-based ink is more expensive to make, thus more expensive to purchase

Overall, both types of ink have perks and downfalls. If a consumer is in need of a printer for simple, standard text documents, a unit using dye-based ink will be the best match.  On the other hand, if the user needs to print color documents or documents that will last for years to come, a machine with a pigment-based ink system would be better. The above is just a guide and for most people that just want to do everyday there is no need to worry about the difference of the two.

The Next Big Thing in Printer Technology.

November 29th, 2011

Below is the latest technology in printers and its speed is something else compared to other ink-jet printers.

If you’ve been stuck with either an inkjet or laser printer for your tasks, then you should prepare for Memjet, the faster and more economical solution for your printing needs. So what is this Memjet?

Memjet manufacturers say it is the fastest printer at the lowest cost cost in terms of operation in the printer market. It’s faster than your ordinary ink-jet printer because of the way it does printing jobs. Instead of having a print head that moves across the page over and over, Memjet’s head is as wide as the page and as paper travels underneath, there are 70,000 microscopic nozzles that eject ink all at the same time.

Although laser printers can match the speed of Memjet, laser printers cost more both to use and buy. Memjet printers are expected to have a retail price of €350 to €450, but the ink that it uses will only cost 5 cents per page, compared to the 12 or 25 cents in laser jets or ink jets.

Micro-electronic mechanical systems, or MEMS, have paved the way for the page-wide head and tiny nozzles of the Memjet. These parts are made out of silicon and uses techniques similar to processing computer chips which makes it possible for tiny and very precise mechanical assemblies to be made. MEMS have been widely used in digital cinema projectors, in the sensors that capture the motion of Nintendo Wii remotes, and as such in smartphone like the iPhone. Many companies have tried to create similar projects like the Memjet, but it has proven to be the first successful machine of its kind.

The inventor of Memjet is Kia Silverbook from Australia which has a privately owned company in San Diego. Memjet’s CEO Len Lauer aims to get at least $250 billion-per-year share in the worldwide printing market. The memjet printer is able to print at roughly 60 pages per minute or one colour page per second.

How to make free calls on your iphone.

November 18th, 2011

Below are details on a new  application that allows you to make free calls on your iphone.

The world is getting smaller with the advent of technology that allows us to connect to each other over long distances almost instantaneously. With Viber’s VoIP app, this is all the more true as it lets you call or text any one of your friends who also has the app installed.

Originally released last year for the iOS, Viber is now finally being released for Android. The application is available for free and boosts a number of functions that makes you all the more connected with your friends and family, provided that they are also using the app.

Calls and text messages are for free, being limited only to the availability of an internet connection, it all depends on your phone’s data plan (or indeed access to a WiFi connection). Phone calls also sound much better than your regular call. The app requires no registration and even allows you the use of your existing phone number and contact list.

For text messages, there is a built-in function that allows you to reply directly to a message without opening the app. You can also view call logs in-app from non-Viber calls and you can set Viber as the default dialer for all applications.

There is also cross-platform support, which means you can make calls to your all your friends, regardless of whatever OS their phones are running. Sounds like a good  deal to me!

I think there’s going to be some competition with existing apps like Skype and WhatsApp, but by far Viber sounds to be the best app of its kind yet.
